Artist Spotlight
Virginia Vela
Virginia "Ginny" Vela is one of our amazing inhouse
artists here at Anita Goodesign, as well
as being the talent behind the Rainbow Bridge
collection. The poem stitched onto the main
blocks for this release was written by Ginny as
an original rendition of the beloved passage
many pet owners know and cherish. We asked
Ginny to share some insight for the inspiration
behind her beautiful words, and she was kind
enough to share this story with us:
"I've always loved reading poetry, so getting the
chance to write my own poem for this project
was such a treat. I was inspired by the story of
a cat named Rainbow who belonged to a friend
of mine.
One day after leaving work and arriving home
to his apartment building, my friend Michael got
out of his car and heard the sound of a kitten
crying out in distress. It just so happened that
this was during a heavy downpour of rain and
he looked around to see where the sound was
coming from. He looked up to see a tiny kitten
on the roof looking down at him, scared to move
and extremely upset. He couldn't walk away and
knew he had to do something to help her.
Some workers were nearby who happened to
have a truck and a ladder. Michael asked them
if they could help get the cat down off the roof
and they were more than happy to oblige. They
got Rainbow down and put the long haired
tuxedo kitten in his arms and he knew she was
coming home with him.
Michael felt the kitty had come into his life for
a reason. He named her Rainbow because he
said that she was up above him like a rainbow
in the sky. Rainbow was the most wonderful cat
he had ever had, and was a special part of his
life for over 19 years, until she left to travel over
the bridge that bears her name."
