Run your next machine step, which is the tacking stitch for
the base fabric. Do not trim the base fabric, as you’ll need
the 1⁄2” of excess material to act as your seam allowance!

to complete any standard embroidery steps until you have
reached the placement stitch for your first appliqué.
Place a piece of appliqué fabric right side facing up over the
placement stitch, being sure to cover it on all sides.

your appliqué.
Using a pair of appliqué scissors, trim away any excess
material from the tacking stitch line.
Now, place your base fabric right side up, completely
covering the batting. You will need enough base fabric to
extend past the edges of the block by at least a 1⁄2”.
