Your block should now look something like this.

Next, place your base fabric right side facing up over the
batting, being sure to have enough fabric for at least a 1⁄2”
seam allowance on all sides. NOTE: We were running low
on our pretty base fabric, so ours features a 1⁄4” seam!
Run the next step, which is the tacking stitch to secure the
base fabric. NOTE: These block designs do not tack down
the base fabric in a complete square, and may leave a
space where the paper piecing motifs will end up!
Using a pair of curved tip embroidery scissors, neatly trim
away the excess batting, being careful not to trim through the
tacking stitches.
