Freestanding lace is a beloved
technique here at Anita Goodesign.
This technique is versatile, simple, and
adds a touch of elegance to every
project! For this project, you can use
two of the same lace design to cap off
the ends of a piece of fabric to turn it
into a table runner in any length you
desire. Use fabric like solid cotton or
linen to make your lace runner simple
and sleek for everyday use, or take it to
the next level by using a bold, printed
fabric. Stitch these designs in any color
you’d like to match your home decor,
or bring them out for seasonal meals
and other special occasions. You can
even jazz up a seasonal runner by
stitching it on a more luxe fabric, such
as silk dupioni!
The lace is created and attached in
the hoop by stitching on water soluble
stabilizer, which is rinsed away at
the end for the freestanding effect.
The lace is specially digitized to not
unravel, for an effortless doily effect
that is delicate but sturdy. Once you
stitch your lace ends, simply use your
machine to hem the long edges of the
fabric, and your runner is complete!
This collection is perfect for combining
with other freestanding lace
collections. Use multiple collections
together to deck your table out with
placemats, napkin rings, and coasters
to match your new runner!
