vis-a-vis volunteers 14 THE TROPICAL Garden Arlene Ferris: 30 years of Inspiring Volunteers By Niki Saylor and Georgia Tasker Nearly 300 Garden volunteers, staff and friends gathered on August 4 to wish Volunteer Director Arlene Ferris farewell, and to celebrate her life’s work and 31 years of service and dedication to the Garden. “The Magical Mystery Tour” was the theme of her party, inspired by the twists and turns of her life, her experience as a tram tour guide, and of course, one of her favorite musical groups, the Beatles.
