the MONMOUTH MUSEUM
For over 50 years the Monmouth Museum has offered changing art, history
and science exhibitions in four separate galleries and the new Meyer Art
& Nature Area, providing a destination for creative expression and lifelong
learning. Imaginative and informative exhibitions in the Main and Nilson
Galleries present a wide variety of art in all media.
The WonderWing and Becker Children’s Wing feature hands-on,
interactive exhibitions that provide fun learning experiences for children
and their families. Ancients to Astronauts: How We Communicate, the
current exhibition in the Becker Children’s Wing, explores the subject of
communication through four different interactive areas. Experience weather
and learn how weather reports are broadcast, travel to ancient Egypt in a
time machine and visit a mummy’s tomb, blast off into space in a Friendship
7 space capsule and make a craft from recycled materials in the popular
Green Arts Studio.
Children ages 6 years and under will have a magical undersea learning
experience in the WonderWing, a permanent exhibition on the sea and the
creatures that make it their home. Children have plenty of opportunities
for fun—exploring a pirate ship, climbing inside a lighthouse, playing in a
kelp forest, performing in a Tiki theatre, and sliding through the mouth of a
whale! An ongoing schedule of films, planetarium shows and story times
provides special activities for our young visitors.
Educational programs at the Museum include guided tours, lectures and
workshops, bus trips and themed craft activities and demonstrations.
