Photography by Gram Red Cross Angels’ Silver Brunch The Red Cross Angels’ 2016 Silver Brunch, which benefited the American Red Cross of Tampa Bay’s Service to the Armed Forces Program, was held in the Bayshore Boulevard, Tampa, home of Carmen and Harry Barkett. The brunch, which was co-chaired by the Angels’ President Peggy Gill and Vice President Pauline Holovak, honored Gen. Ann Dunwoody, U.S. Army retired, who was the first woman to become a four-star general. The event also celebrated the 75th anniversary of MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. The committee members created the desserts, while Rita Carlino’s Catering donated the food, Rita Carlino’s Beyond the Beyond Floral Creations donated the flowers, and Amalie Motor Oil, where Harry Barkett is CEO and president, donated the music, beverages and decorations. YMCA’s Grape Escape The Palm Harbor branch of the YMCA had its 14th annual garden party under the stars, which was called “The Grape Escape.” All the proceeds benefit the Greater Palm Harbor YMCA and are used to support their programs for the community. Artist Patricia Gorrow attended the fundraiser with John Gilliss of Friendly Kia in New Port Richey, which supports so many community events. Jan Dees was thanked for her work on this event for the past 14 years by Judy Ransom, the co-chair of the event, and Randy Nilsson, the Y’s executive director. 162 TAMPA BAY MAGAZINE | JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2017 Photography by Dawn LaCross Colleen Bebell and her husband Doug, the chef at Mystic Fish in Palm Harbor, donated and served Grilled Octopus Salad to guests at the event. Beverly Austin and Mary Jane Martinez served as the Red Cross Angels’ Silver Brunch’s advisory co-chairs. Pauline Holovak and Peggy Gill co-chaired this benefit that honored U.S. Army Gen. Ann Dunwoody and MacDill Air Force Base. Carmen Barkett, who hosted the Silver Brunch in her Tampa home, enjoyed serving on the committee with Brenda Schwarzkopf.
