t’s a typical weekday in November, and Steve Matesich ’91 has mail. Today there are applications from Wesley Chapel, Belleair, Temple Terrace, and Lutz. Dade City and Safety Harbor, too, along with a number of other locales throughout Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco counties. Tomorrow, he might fi nd addresses in Polk, Hernando, or Manatee counties – each one of them places current Jesuit students call home. Even as he completes his 10th year as 14 JESUIT PERSPECTIVES • WINTER 2016-17 Jesuit High School’s Admissions Director, Matesich is still struck by the scope and diversity of the school’s reach in the Tampa Bay area. “It’s inspiring,” Matesich said, “to see a student body that comes together from far and wide for a higher purpose. If Jesuit was simply a place to earn a diploma or win a championship, just that ‘nice school around the corner,’ I don’t think we’d see the incredible reach that we see today.” After 118 years of forming young men in the Tampa Bay area, Jesuit is attracting more prospective students than ever before. “Jesuit’s reputation and tradition is deep-rooted,” Matesich said, “But it’s what happens on campus each and every day—our teachers and students challenging themselves to meet that standard of excellence in every aspect of school life—that’s testament to how that tradition has strengthened and spread through Tampa Bay and beyond.” I Jesuit’s Enrollment Growth in the 21st Century Jac’Quan Gadson ’19 and Andy Luaces ’19 are part of Jesuit’s largest enrollment ever, 790 students in 2016-17
