Explore and Discover in Baxter State Park! Junior Ranger Coloring Page! Hey Junior Rangers! Did you know that one of the best ways to remember things while you’re outside is by taking photos, drawing or coloring? Color the White-tailed Deer and her spotted fawn in the box below! What other animals have you seen in Baxter State Park? Things to Do With Your Family: • Look for birds, bugs and animal tracks. Remember to leave the flowers for the bees, the bugs for the birds and any other natural or cultural object in the Park. They all serve a purpose in nature! • Use your senses to observe nature. • Bring a fishing pole! Maine residents under 16 years of age and nonresidents under 12 can fish without a license. Check out “Before Casting for the Big One” on page 12. • Hike a trail! Explore the nature trails at Daicey Pond, Roaring Brook and South Branch Ponds. Rangers have many suggestions for hikes for all ages and abilities. • Can you canoe? What better way to explore the ponds than from a canoe? • Get into the swim of things! Enjoy the refreshing, clear waters of the Park! • Enjoy a picnic! Don’t worry if you don’t know all the correct names of plants, trees, bugs or animals when you explore in nature. The most important part is using your curiosity and sense of wonder to learn about and live close to nature. The Park is a special place to explore and learn! Did you know there are over 200,000 acres in Baxter State Park and only about 35 Rangers to protect and preserve all the animals, plants and trees that live here? We need your help! Pick up a free Junior Ranger Manual at Park Headquarters, the Visitor Center, gatehouses or any Ranger Station! Complete the activities, show your Booklet to a Ranger and receive your Junior Ranger ���������������������������������������������������������������������������������� us Rangers Protect and Preserve Baxter State Park! Programs In The Park! Enjoy our Evening and Children’s Program offerings July-September. Listen to Park Rangers share their experiences and knowledge by enjoying an afternoon of paddling, a cookout over the campfire or learning about the stewardship of Baxter State Park. Children can explore and learn about nature’s wonders by dipping a net in the pond, catching a bug in a bug box or dissecting an owl pellet to discover what was for dinner! Check Park bulletin boards, Headquarters, or the Visitor Center for the schedule and location of upcoming programs or any schedule changes. 10
