around the city. I had taught at nearly
every fitness center throughout the
metro area and had a great following
at all of the gyms I worked at but I felt
very limited with the number of people I
could reach. I felt like I needed to serve
the much larger community and give
back what I’ve received from others, and
from God.
“I tell people that life is all about
balance,” April continued. “We live in a
city that is so rich in culture and there’s
no reason why we shouldn’t be able to
enjoy it. So most people in New Orleans
aren’t necessarily restricting themselves
from eating and drinking whatever they
want, but it is possible to live here and
be very healthy and happy. So if you want
to eat five pounds of crawfish, a snowball
and an order of beignets, by all means,
do it. Just don’t do it every day. You need
to counterbalance that with being active
and taking care of yourself.”
Summing up her business philosophy,
April termed it “Bringing Balance to the
Big Easy.” It’s all about showing people
they can do those things they still love
but in moderation.”
Describing in detail what her business
primarily consists of, she said, “We
offer programming for everything from
pediatric kids all the way up to seniors.
Our most popular activity is probably
with women ages 24-36. But we have
programming ranging from all ages and
all genders. We make things really fun
COVER STORY
and accessible, so we have also
guys who join us. They end up
really enjoying it once they give it a try.”
Footprints to Fitness’ program offerings
include Fitness Classes, Workplace
Wellness, Healthy Happy Hours, Custom
Wellness Events, Personal Training, CPR
Training, Bachelorette Parties/Bridal
Boot Camps and Community Outreach.
And so, as a
new face on the
local TV news
scene, does April
have aspirations of
going further with
the station? She
answered, “Yes! I
am definitely open
to and interested
in all options. I
love challenging
myself.”
“It's a newfound
love that I just
discovered so I’m
really allowing God
to guide me and let
me know where He
wants me to be.
“I have people
around me who
make a difference
in the world, and I
just want to be like
them,” April added.
“I’ll always be an
educator, even though I’m not a school
teacher anymore. I will always be in
the business of helping others however
I can; through fitness or journalism,
entertainment or whatever else God
wants me to do.”
