Sand Key Park
Just across Clearwater
Pass, is a quieter and less
crowded beach experience in
Clearwater ranked one of the
top 14 beaches in America.
This 95-acre park is divided
into two distinct areas—a
beach and a park. Sand
Key Park is a barrier island
between the Gulf of Mexico
and the Florida mainland.
In the park proper are two
picnic shelters with grills, a
playground, restrooms, a dog
park, picnic tables, and water
fountains. Don’t miss the salt
marsh with viewing benches
overlooking an area where
heron, roseate spoonbill,
great horned owl, anhinga,
and common moorhen nest
and feed. Day and annual
passes are available.
Sand Key Park houses the
base of operations for the
an interdepartmental
cooperation program to build
a reef in the Gulf. These reefs
Park’s natural communities
include a beach where sea
turtles annually deposit
eggs. The nearby Clearwater
Marine Aquarium takes
responsibility for these nests
and keeps statistics.
Nearby hotels include the
Sheraton Sand Key and
Clearwater Beach Marriott on
Sand Key.
