Homes presented by the Hickory
& Catawba Valley Home Builders
Association. This free tour consists
of 8 newly constructed homes
and 3 remodeling projects. At
every location you will be able
to experience first-hand the
craftsmanship and detail that
went into each project and how
this area can rightfully claim to
be home to some of the finest
builders in North Carolina. You will
have the opportunity to see the
latest designs for kitchens and
baths, as well as learn more about
cutting edge innovations in home
automation and green building.
As you tour these homes take the
time to talk to the builders about
your ideas and needs for your next
new home or remodeling project.
And I’ll let you in on a little secret in case you didn’t know: the Housing
Market is back. Sales are up, new housing starts are up, and home values
are rising. Building permits in our area were up in 2012 over 12% and are
on pace to be higher again in 2013. Charlotte was up over 30%. Louisville,
Kentucky was up almost 43%. The Raleigh area building permits rose nearly
32%. And with super-low mortgage rates, competitive material prices, and
an improving job market, it just makes sense that the market has improved.
There are still areas of the country where foreclosures and a weak local
economy remain serious issues, but for the most part, there is improvement
across the board. This resurrection of a battered industry is just another
example of the American spirit of hard work, resiliency and fortitude. There
are still many challenges in our local and national economies going forward,
but thankfully housing is going to be a success story. Our Parade of Homes
is a testament to that fact.
It takes a tremendous amount of effort from staff and volunteers at our
association to produce the Parade of Homes. I would like to extend a
personal thank you to our Executive Officer, Lee Bogle, and our Parade of
Homes Chairs Dale Rockensuess of White Rock Construction and Leslie
Wells of Dream Spaces - and all the others involved in making this annual
event come to life. They have done an outstanding job and their hard work
and dedication will make it one of the best parades ever. I also want to thank
the builders and advertisers. Without you, none of this would be possible.
And last, but certainly not least, a sincere thank you to those touring the
parade. I know you will enjoy the show and thanks again for helping to
make it a success.

The Light Place is the right place to go when
you are looking for custom lighting options for
your home or business. Located in the Hickory
Furniture Mart, The Light Place offers 9000
square feet of lighting and home décor. From
exquisite chandeliers to bath lighting, pendants,
island lighting, ceiling fans and outdoor fixtures,
the store provides customers with a vast array
of choices in finish color and style. In addition,
there is a large selection of table and floor lamps
as well as lamp shades and other accessories
for the home.
The Light Place is owned and operated by
Anne Wepner who holds a Lighting Specialist
designation from the American Lighting
Association. She is supported by veteran
staff members who have assisted countless
customers with making appropriate lighting
choices for their unique situations. Alice Herman
lends a helping hand as a special consultant
for portable lamps and shades. Sheryl Ruffner
makes the process easy by walking customers
through the process of selecting fixtures for
any room in their home. Andy Melnyk focuses
on utility lighting and special applications; in
addition, he repairs lamps and fixtures that
customers wish to preserve.
The Light Place represents over 50 vendors
in numerous displays throughout the store.
Additionally, selections can be made through
both paper and on-line catalogues. If none of
these options provides exactly the right match,
there are opportunities for custom design. With
all customers, the first priority is quality service
both during and after the sale. If there are any
problems or concerns with a fixture that has
been purchased, the staff stands ready to offer
expert assistance in making the correction.
There are many ways to purchase lighting, but
without knowledgeable guidance, customers
can often make mistakes. Why take the risk on
other options when there is a clear choice for
getting quality products and dedicated service?

2021 Parade of Homes!
While this year continues to be challenging in
many ways with Covid-19, we are very excited
to offer a virtual and in person Parade of
Homes. Six homes will be available for virtual
tours and three of those will also be open to
the public for in person viewing.
Don’t forget to access the Parade of Homes
on the go with our own mobile app! The Hickory-
Catawba Valley Parade app allows users to
access all the information of the event with the click
of a button.
The app will be available on the IOS App store and
through Google Play prior to the event.
Several of the area’s top builders have chosen the
Parade of Homes to showcase their work. All homes are new
construction, showing current designs and trends.
