12 S O P H O M O R E S P O T L I G H T : Carol Jimenez Carol Jimenez is a junior, Organization Communication major with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies, hailing from Wake Forest, NC. She mentors for JM Mentoring & Associates, working with disadvantaged minority youth to help them succeed academically in order to attend college. Carol is also the Director of Social and Friendship for the Chi Omega Fraternity and on the Fundraising Committee for Dance Marathon. Fun fact about Carol: she also instructs Zumba classes on campus and loves working with the students to help them build confidence. Since coming to UNC Charlotte, Carol admitted, “I learned that I am very passionate about intersectional feminism and hope to work with advancing women’s and minority rights after college.” Her advice to incoming students is to “be as involved as possible and take advantage of every opportunity presented to you. Get to know your professors and go to their office hours, it really makes a difference.“ Coming into this year, Carol wishes she had known her sophomore year would be over in the blink of an eye. “It feels like just yesterday that I was moving into my apartment,” she exclaimed. “I guess time does fly when you’re always busy.” “My favorite UNC Charlotte memory definitely has to be Panhellenic bid day. It was such an exhilarating experience running to my new home away from home. Chi Omega has provided me with so many opportunities and great memories that I will always hold dear to my heart.” To Carol, being a 49er means working hard and never giving up on what you want. It means to persevere even when the odds aren’t in your favor. “I’m so proud to be a 49er and wouldn’t want to go to any other university.” BY ENA WALKER, NEW STUDENT AND FAMILY SERVICES “...being a 49er means working hard, never giving up on what you want and persevering even when the odds aren’t in your favor.“ UNC CHARLOTTE | SOPHOMORE YEAR
