It’s an opportunity to voice your opinion and show a vested interest in UNC Charlotte. It also allows us to meet the faculty.” WHAT DOES BEING PART OF THE NINER NATION FAMILY MEAN TO YOU? “It is a great way to stay informed of what is happening on campus and provides opportunities to volunteer and participate in University programs and events. Niner Nation Family are the ambassadors and the advocates of the University.” HOW DO YOU STAY CONNECTED WITH UNC CHARLOTTE? • Niner Nation Family newsletter • Involvement as a member of the Family Council • Read the emails from the University to stay abreast • Attend events and athletic games HOW HAS YOUR PARENTING STYLE EVOLVED SINCE YOUR STUDENTS BEGAN THEIR TIME AT UNC CHARLOTTE? “We make every effort to stay connected and learn about Harish and Narvin’s campus experience. Encourage and provide moral support. Discuss with your student how they are tracking to the goals they had established as incoming freshmen. We are giving them advice and making them aware of the different opportunities out there in the real world. Staying abreast of their course selection, and remind them of the importance of graduating on time and how their effort today will be tied to their success in the future.” WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE ASPECT OF UNC CHARLOTTE? “The overall experience of both of my boys has been incredible - both academically and socially. We have noticed a dramatic improvement in their confidence, personality, and maturity. As parents, we are thrilled to have both the boys on the Chancellor’s list. All this has been made possible by the following: • Professors: They truly care about the student’s success; they are approachable and always willing to help. • Class Size: Although the school is large, one of my sons’ classes is fairly small, which allows good interaction between professor and students. • Resources: There are a lot of resources available to help students succeed. Examples include academic workshops, tutoring center, writing center to name a few. • Student Advising for Freshman Excellence (SAFE) Mentor: Considered extremely valuable. SAFE mentors go out of the way to help. We would highly recommend this to the incoming freshmen. • Campus/Facilities: Nice and clean. • Campus Dining: Our boys love the food at SOVI and Crown. They say the employees in the dining facilities are friendly and nice. • Gym: This is one favorite of the boys’ because it is clean and has lots of good equipment. The pool is nice and the staff is very helpful.” ANY ADVICE FOR OTHER UNC CHARLOTTE PARENT AND FAMILY MEMBERS? “Stay involved, informed, and show you care. I truly believe that students succeed when parents are engaged. Also, parents play an integral role in supporting and enhancing their children’s campus experience.
