Rebekah made a discovery this past May when she traveled to Atlanta with her family to be recognized for her Manufacturing Appreciation award. “I found out that I’m taller than the Governor,” she said and smiled. Rebekah’s work will appear in an upcoming calendar showcasing manufacturing in Georgia. Looking back, Rebekah points to her grandmother’s artwork as a catalyst for her own artistic process. “My grandmother’s art is everywhere in our home,” said Rebekah. “She did pottery and painted. She liked to paint flowers. Since no one else in my family can draw, they say that’s where I got it from.” Rebekah’s grandmother, Sarah Hilton, passed away recently, but her influence continues to live on through her granddaughter. Like Elmer, Rebekah also received a scholarship from Georgia Tech in the Industrial Design program “After teaching Rebekah art for several years, what stands out to me is the way she executes her ideas for each project. She will take a concept and build an artwork out of unconventional media. She definitely thinks outside of the box, which is the highest compliment I could give as her art teacher.” –Erin Banks, VCHS Art Teacher Rebekah received an Honorable Mention award from Governor Deal in the 2017 Georgia Manufacturer of the Year Design Competition.
