Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn by Kenard Park is an imaginative book about the changing seasons. It follows a girl on her journey through the day exploring the sights of a changing wood and town. From the trees to the setting sun, the transforming scenes are brought to life by vibrant illustrations. Mother Bruce by Ryan T. Higgins is a comical book. It follows a bear named Bruce that has to raise some baby geese. He is resentful at first, but he eventually steps up and raises them as his own. Follow along as the grumpy Bruce has to deal with the cute, baby geese. Sweet Dreams by Rose A. Lewis is a sweet book about a child going to bed. Thoughts of great friends and animals lull her to sleep, and the almost mystical world fuels her dreams. This book is great for a bed time story, but is really great for reading at anytime in the day. Pinehurst Splash Pad There’s no better park to cool off this summer than at the Pinehurst Splash Pad! From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the water sprays high, low, here, there and everywhere! From spraying posts to water curtains, floor geysers, and BEST of all the giant yellow bucket—water delights! As the children gather under the giant bucket waiting for it to dump water all over them, they eagerly wait, giggle, dance, squeal, and count the minutes until—SWOOSH, CRASH, SPLASH— down comes the water! There is something for everyone to enjoy! Other highlights include the brick sitting wall, the playground, concession stand, picnic tables, and restrooms. Located at the Rassie Wicker Park, just behind the Pinehurst Fire Department, the sounds of splashing water, laughing children, and lots of FUN will encourage you to come and spend the day! Come play! Behind the Pinehurst Fire Dept, 10 Rassie Wicker Park Dr., Pinehurst, NC Matthew having FUN! Wesley loves the water! Sisters Ivie and Eden having fun at the beach! After a family vacation to the beach, Ivie wrote this story about the Great Whites! Great Whites by Ivie Great Whites are predators of the sea. In many ways they are prey, too. Many people kill Great Whites, and other sharks for their fins. Great Whites live along the coast of North America. They also live on the tips of Australia and Africa. Sharks are very amazing creatures but many are almost extinct. Great Whites are vulnerable, which means that could easily become endangered. Great Whites eat Cape Cod, seals, smaller sharks and fish. They catch their prey by sneaking up to it. They rely on their senses of smell and hearing to find their prey. Once they find it, they pounce. Great Whites' sense of smell is so great, they can smell blood half a mile away. If you ever see a shark at the beach, chances are it might be a Great White. p.38 The Pinehurst Gazette, Inc.
