But there was no need to bother worrying about these things at the time, my truck needed serious help. I started by banging out bent wheels and welding my engine mounts back into the frame rails. Then just to be safe I Luckily, I’ve got fans thats would do nearly anything for me and Phil Hall ran out and found one for me. Once the motor he is though, he promptly replaced it. Every once in a while I would poke my head out from under my truck and glance over at the bar where Scott Green had been sitting since I arrived. And I was starting to think “it must be nice” but I When I heard the drivers meeting coming to a close I went to investigate. It was time for me to make my stand. Dennis Anderson can and will talk me into just about anything. So it seemed likely that I would do what he wanted, and his plan an instant. I knew what I had to do, so I raised my hand and made my announcement loud and proud. I said, “I like Scott Green, and I like what he’s doing. But I’m not about to just give it to ‘em, I’m going out there and hitting that big jump and I want you to measure my distance too.” To make Dennis happy (well happier) I promised to Back at my home away from home/tow rig/mega truck shop on wheels/daycare center, Jim Doak and I rebuilt a stubborn driveshaft and unfortunately time was running out. I got my shocks together, but they weren’t right. One was leaking oil in the rear, and the fronts didn’t seem to have any rebound at all, so I overloaded them with nitrogen. I never found time to make front wheel drive work, so I took the torch and cut apart the cv joint so she wouldn’t get bound up. At one point I asked a fan to make bump stops My truck was an absolute mess, but it started and moved, so it would do. I kissed my family and backed the old truck all the way up to the fence. I strapped in tight and prepared for battle. The ramp was twelve feet high and they were adding more dirt. My hero came over to me once again to try and talk me out of it. And as much as I want to help Dennis Anderson and help his show, and make him proud of me, this was what I decided I needed. I needed to show myself and everyone else that I had just as much if not more nerve almost every time I sit in it, and that’s more then most can say, but today I had to lay down a huge air. That’s what I decided, and that’s what I was doing. So I looked my hero square in the eye and told him the same thing I tell my wife about once a month, “I don’t make a very good dog.” I sat and watched Scott direct the skid loader. He wore It took so long that at one point I actually fell asleep. I 53
