As a CERT member, you receive basic training in disaster preparedness, fire suppression (fire extinguishers only), disaster medical – rapid assessment, triage and basic first aid, light search and rescue, terrorism and disaster psychology. For graduation, CERT members participate in a mock emergency scenario where they put their eight weeks of training to the test. After graduation, you are encouraged to continue your commitment through participation in monthly training meetings, county-wide and state-wide training exercises and assist us with special events. CERT graduates can be asked to assist with North Collier Fire public education events, first aid stations at community events and the department’s special projects. In the event of a largescale emergency, CERT teams will be activated and assist with basic emergency response and recovery. The most important aspect of the program is the confidence the participants gain in their capability to deal with a situation until we (the highly- trained professionals) arrive. North Collier CERT provides hands-on realistic training and that is the difference.
