Pack 25 Scouts stand with community leaders during Veterans Day events. ESTATES LOCAL • JULY/AUGUST 2017 the Estates on the county commission, signed up his son because he appreciates the lessons the boys learn. “I believe that the skills and values developed through Scouting will teach our young men leadership which will help to shape the future of our community,” said McDaniel. “It’s not just the outdoor skills. It’s the collaborative initiative. It’s the interaction with those of different backgrounds and beliefs that teach life lessons for our young men.” Collier County Schools are often the beneficiaries of projects performed by the groups as an ongoing effort to serve the surrounding community. Ronna Smith, a local principal welcomes their help. “Corkscrew Elementary is thankful for our partnership with the Cub Scouts,” she said. “They have assisted our school community through various service projects and helped with the flag ceremony at our Veteran’s Day Assembly over the past few years.” Every school in the Estates area will have a Scout night information session at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 22.. By James Giles (James Giles is the District Executive, Boy Scouts of America, Southwest Florida Council.) The Boy Scouts of America considers itself a partner in education with every school system across the country and encourages local Cub Scout Packs to give back in age appropriate service to schools. Parent volunteers make a difference. A healthy organization has well-trained volunteers who care about the youth and mission of the Scouts. In the Estates, the scouts are led by leaders who live in our community. “I agree with the values and principles that scouting teaches our youth,” said Pack 25 leader Scott Howard. “Kids have so many negative influences and Scouting instills the leadership skills we need to have in our boys. I want to be someone who helps foster independence in the next generation that will develop our community.” Boys may join any time of the year by contacting a unit through www.beascout.org or calling (239) 207-5366. 17
