Woody writes two columns for us each month - From the River’s End and The Sports Page. Thank you Woody, for all you do for the Beachcomber! Main Street Musings As thermometers show an increase in the temperature, the calendar increases with a variety of “to-dos” for enjoying the month of July on Tybee! There are plenty of ways to enjoy this sweet town such as the 4th of July fireworks celebration, cookouts, relaxing at the beach, exploring your foodie side at one of our fab restaurants while meeting a variety of people, and becoming an art connoisseur as you take in some shows at the Post Theater and visit the many art galleries. And don’t forget to come to Memorial Park July 15 when the moon rises for the next Movies in the Park showing. That’s right! When the temperature drops a couple of degrees as the sun goes down and the moon shines on Saturday, July 15, Monster Trucks will be shown on the “big” inflatable screen for all to enjoy. So, pack a picnic, grab a blanket and some beach chairs, and stake your spot at Memorial Park to get all amped up with Monster Trucks. The movie will begin once the sun sets and the stars in the sky shine enough to let the stars be seen on the screen that will be in front of the Gym wall. Keep in mind that if there is inclement weather, the movie will be moved indoors to the gym. Monster Trucks is an action-packed family film, rated PG. The movie is about a high school aged young man who is looking to start a different life away from the town he has always lived in by building a monster truck from bits and pieces of scrapped cars. One day he comes across a creature that was accidentally brought to the surface by an oil company. This oil company is trying to catch the creature so they can eliminate the evidence. The young man helps the creature hide and soon finds out it can also supercharge the monster truck he’s building! A bond forms between these two as they create an unforgettable adventure helping each other and working together. As a reminder, for those of you that might not be familiar, Memorial Park is centrally located behind city hall and features lush grass, a covered playground, and picnic pavilion. The location, with easy access to the bike route, makes this historic park one of our easiest accessible spots to relax. Plus, the park lighting provides enough illumination to facilitate navigating the area without negatively affecting the movie’s visibility when it starts when the sky darkens enough. Parking is available on Butler and in the park’s parking lot, which can be accessed from Jones Avenue.
