WE ALWAYS START WITH THE FABRIC When you create a project, you start with the fabric. When I create an art piece, we start the same way. The main difference is the fabric that we used. Instead of conventional fabrics like cotton, I used silk scarves and wool bouclé fabric from Paris, fashion fabrics, upholsery fabrics, essentially anything that is not traditional. Here are some examples. This is an assortment of fashion fabrics. This is a close up of wool bouclé fabric. If you search online, you can find fabrics like these on websites like fabric.com and mood fabrics. This is a fashion brocade fabric. Fabrics like these are often heavier than cotton and may not be suitable for a quilt. They are perfect for pieces that you are going to frame. This example shows a multitude of Hermes silk scarves. Out of all of the fabrics we used, these were the most expensive. The price for this fabric is over $400.00 a yard. Using designer fabrics like these will give a stadard quilt pattern new life due to their texture. Any fabric that you hold in your hand can be turned into a quilt, or in this case a piece of art. For me, the fun part of embroidery is the experimenting!
