NOTES VARIABLE 1 - STITCH LENGTH Running stitches only have two different variables, or things that you can change to make them appear differently. The first one is stitch length. The longer the length, the further apart the stitch penetration points are. Conversely, the shorter the stitch, the closer together they are. 1mm is the shortest stitch length that can be used. If the stitches are too short, your thread will break more often and your stitches will disappear into the fabric. 12mm is the longest stitch that your machine can sew. As the length of a stitch increases, the risk of it snagging and pulling increases. You will rarely use a stitch longer than 6mm. The graphic above show the different lengths that can be used. I will generally use a 3-4 mm stitch in most of the designs I digitize, unless I am going for a special effect. Your machines will run faster when you use 4mm or shorter stitches.
