WORDS & PICTURES: Kerry Gaylord The Early Learning Coalition (ELC) of Manatee County, Inc. is delighted to announce the arrival of ‘The STEAM Machine’ which has been out and about in the local community this summer! The STEAM Machine has been visiting child care centers across Manatee County since mid-July, providing one hour sessions that focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. One of the ��rst stops was Primary Prep Preschool in Bradenton (pictured above) Director Edna Sellars said: “We loved having the STEAM Machine at Primary Prep. The children loved the music and talked about it during the remainder of the day. The bene��t to the children is evident. We appreciate the ELC and everything they do to enrich our children's lives.” Promoting STEAM education gives children the opportunity to attain essential skills to connect ideas and integrate knowledge across disciplines, all the while capturing their attention. ELC has partnered with the School District of Manatee County as The STEAM Machine program grows in the new school year. Sharon Oakes, ELC Chief Operations Of��cer, said: “We are very excited to have The STEAM Machine hitting the road – STEAM education is a proven success and our customized vehicle will provide an exciting experience for the children to engage in, and have fun, whilst they learn.” “The Early Learning Coalition would like to thank Home Depot and the School District of Manatee County as we continue to work on new ideas that enhance and develop crucial learning programs for our local children.” Dr. Sheila Halpin, School District of Manatee County, added: “This outreach is in collaboration with the Soar in 4 program which is aligned with the Campaign for Grade Level Reading. Our intent is that every 4-year-old and their family will be surrounded with all the resources they need to ensure a strong foundation for their child's academic success.”
