Behind each stands Jackie, the resort’s wedding manager since 2014. Everybody wants to make the bride and groom walk away saying, ‘Oh my God, that was the best weekend ever.’ Biggest Trailblazer: Cindy Powell A s an avid trail-runner and hiker, Cindy relishes exploring the winding pitches and paths laced throughout the Valley. But the real "trailblazing" takes place in her position as the director of Waterville Valley Adaptive Snowsports, a 25-year-old program that empowers kids and adults with disabilities and gets them hooked on the fun and power of skiing and recreation. To call her a dedicated hiker would be an understatement. It took her just three years to scale all 48 of the White Mountains’ 4,000-footers. The annual Cold Turkey Plunge in Corcoran Pond netted $40,000 for Waterville Adaptive in 2016. A steadfast participant, Cindy has donned everything from a SpongeBob costume to full-on pirate regalia. Her four kids (two girls and two boys) are all avid skiers. Son Charlie, 30, was recently hired as a development coach for the women’s Europa Cup. Get to Know Cindy Her own wedding was a monument to minimalist charm: After exchanging vows in a church without electricity, the subsequent reception – held at her parents’ Salisbury, New Hampshire home – featured a potluck dinner and live band. When not mapping out others’ dream weddings, she’s busy forging a vision of her own: transforming her house – built in 1794, the oldest in Bethlehem, New Hampshire – into a hiking hostel. Whether tending to gardens, building backyard showers and decks, or camping on road trips with old high-school friends, Adams relishes nothing more than being in the great outdoors of the White Mountains.
