ACV Dining Services’ New Leader While visiting his father at Advent Christian Village in February, Greg Teator picked up the Friendly Neighbor News, the weekly newspaper written and produced by ACV members. Included was an announcement that ACV was looking for a new Dining Services director. With years of experience running commercial kitchens under his belt, Greg immediately applied. He was hired, moved to north Florida, and began working at ACV in June. Greg’s father, Paul, lived at Advent Christian Village for seven years until his recent passing. Over that time, Greg lived in California and New Mexico. In California, Greg worked in college and university food service. When he decided to shift gears and work at a senior living community, he moved to Albuquerque. For three years, he worked at La Vida Llena, a well-known community in that area. When asked what the differences are between serving college students and seniors, Greg responds that there is very little difference. He does recognize that one difference is that while young adults are still trying to determine what their taste buds want, seniors already know. Greg is very happy with the food service staff he has joined at ACV. “They are very dedicated people,” he says. “Very passionate employees.” He has also felt very welcome by ACV’s members. “I’ve received cards and letters,” he says. One of the goals Greg brings with him is to instill a passion for presentation in every food service employee. “People eat first with their eyes,” he explains. “The food should look good as well as taste good. I want us to start using garnishes and fresh fruits and vegetables.” Greg is looking forward to purchasing fewer frozen and canned vegetables in favor of fresh. “Yesterday — the corn we served — we shucked it, broke it and cooked it.” ACV welcomes Greg to its big family and looks forward to enjoying the fruits of his leadership for many years to come. ACV Supports Youth Through Educational Scholarships Advent Christian Village (ACV) has been ministering to children for over 100 years. Today, that continues in a number of ways, including the administration of educational scholarships: the Forward Fund Scholarship and the Marvin E. Jones Scholarship.
