M E E T SID DAVIS TNP Volunteer Scene Shop For some volunteering means working behind the scenes and since October 2012, that is where you will find volunteer Sid Davis. Sid volunteers an average of twenty hours per week, which is why his wife Diane (A well known volunteer here at TNP herself) calls the scene shop his “part-time job.” When Sid began volunteering, he modestly asked what he could do to help out around the scene shop. It wasn’t long before everyone realized that Sid was a highly skilled craftsman with year’s of building experience. The same thing happened when Sid joined the Board of Directors and the Membership Committee. He unassumingly took on whatever assignment he was given, and turned it into a success. Though he is happiest behind the scenes, he was asked to take the stage in 2015 to accept the Unsung Member Award for his dedicated volunteer work with TNP. While the act of volunteering itself is very fulfilling, it is the people and friendships that develop within that fosters that sense of community. “I consider TNP my second home – not just because I spend most of my time here, but the people within these walls are my extended family, states Davis. “We support each other in other endeavors, and care for each other within this safe space. And it’s word of mouth from our volunteers that help bring new people in here to express their own gifts and talents and help our community grow. I’ve even brought my mom into the fold and she can be found happily sewing away with her second family in the costume shop.” SID DAVIS 64
