13 bowls lled with delicious soups from partnering restaurants. The theme is a focus on lling the empty bowls of our neighbors, and the event is on November 2 and November 3 this year. Perhaps you know of an organization like your child’s Cub Scout Pack, or Girl Scout Troop, your school’s PTO, or maybe even the ofce where you work which might nd it benecial to participate in something as a group. How about a competitive food drive in the ofce? Try a peanut butter challenge. Which team or department can bring in the most jars of peanut butter? Got a creative group? Sponsor a Can Sculpture Contest with fun prizes and donate the canned foods after the winners are announced. Ask your employer to give staff members the day off when they promise to use it as a day of volunteering at the Food Bank. Visit mealsonwheelsplus.org and click on the Tickets & Events tab for more information on events and on the Volunteer tab for more ways to get involved. THINK POSITIVE BE POSITIVE Knowing all the data on hunger, one would think the staff at The Food Bank of Manatee might be disheartened by the gravity of the situation. It’s just the opposite. Though they know it is an overwhelming challenge, they are determined to ght. Cindy says she raised three children and always loved to feed people. Now she gets to feed so many more. But she won’t take all the credit, of course. She is quick to share numerous tales of inspiring generosity, because she says: “I live in such a generous community and we have a great staff.” Roughly 350 volunteers annually help The Food Bank of Manatee in a variety of ways. We hope you are inspired to nd a way you can be part of this generous spirit. Next time you see a BOGO at your grocery store, why not buy one and give one? Take your BOGO items over to The Food Bank of Manatee. And when you see Cindy, be sure to ask her about the two Christmas bicycles - and thank her for all she does.
