In 2008, Byrne, an avid cyclist, designed a series of bicycle parking racks in the form of images
corresponding to the areas in which they were located, such as a dollar sign for Wall Street

Byrne, at 65, has settled into a role as a rock ‘n’
roll elder statesman. But his new album, American
Utopia, compares with some of his best work. It
has been described by The New York Times as
“a cheerful dystopia,” with 10 tracks that offer a
mixture of cynicism and hope, reflecting Byrne’s
typically unique view of the world.
