Teachers from around the nation will be
coming next year to teach classes at the studio.
One is already booked to teach a class on
applique, a technique where wool cutouts are
sewn with wool thread onto a larger felt background.
It’s another decorative method that can
be used to add beauty to the crafts.
They have a cutter in the studio, so they can
cut the wool to your size preference.
The shop owners even host an annual “Harbor
Hookin’” event at the Charlotte Harbor Event
Center (located at 75 Taylor Street in Punta
Gorda) every year. The 2019 dates are February
26, 27 and 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Three days
of fun are planned, with seating for up to 400.
There will be classes, a rug show and vendors
from all over the nation. This will be the sixth
annual event. Visit SearsPortRugHooking.com for
more information.
Thursdays are “open fiber day” at Searsport
Rug Hooking South. Join Chris for a fun and
relaxing day of whatever your craft is – knitting,
spinning, crocheting, penny rugs, needle punching,
and of course traditional rug hooking. Bring your
supplies, have lunch and hook in the company of
others. While these are not formal classes and
there’s no charge, if you need help there’s always
someone willing to share their knowledge.
The studio is located at 31 Chailett Road,
Suite 3, Rotonda West. Call (941) 828-1799 for
directions or more information.
