In 1894, Rabbi Cohn and his family started a mission to the
Jewish people in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn out of a
renovated horse stable. This was the beginning
of Chosen People Ministries. Now, in our
one hundred and twenty-fourth year, Chosen
People Ministries operates with a ministry
presence in seventeen countries, including
Israel, where we have served for the past
seventy years.
But, our headquarters is in the heart of the
largest concentration of Jewish people in the
world—New York City!
The Global Reach of our
Manhattan Messianic Center
God has used Chosen People Ministries
to reach out to the Jewish people with the
gospel through our staff of two hundred
staff worldwide. Currently, we have twentyfive
dedicated believers working out of our
Manhattan building including: our executive
and New York regional staff, a digital media and
marketing team, accounting and development
departments and publications staff as well.
Our Manhattan Messianic Center is
essential to our worldwide outreach to
the Jewish people, which covers about
ninety-eight percent of the world’s Jewish
population, or approximately fourteen million people. The city of
New York is home to a couple million Jewish people, but hundreds
of thousands of Jewish people who live in the suburbs also work in
Manhattan every day. We are able to reach them as well!
Our headquarters is where we can carry out our mission to pray
for, evangelize, disciple, and serve Jewish people everywhere, and to
teach fellow Christians to do the same.
You can now see why this renovation project is so important!
Current Setbacks
We discovered that many of the beams had rotted and had to be
removed. Unfortunately, this meant having to rebuild the entire roof
structure, and add new drop ceilings and lights. Since the brick around
the roof structure on the back of the building is deteriorating, it became
necessary to rebuild that brick wall down to part of the second floor.
The brickwork requires access to the roof of the building located
behind us in order to protect their roof and their HVAC equipment.
We had difficulty gaining access to the adjoining property, which was
vital to moving the renovation forward. It was necessary to draw up
a license agreement, insurance certificates, and signatures in order
