ADVENTURES IN MARITIME HISTORY…
TOUR FLORIDA’S HISTORIC LIGHTHOUSES
There is a lighthouse at the edge of the sea, warning ships of the dangers they’re unable to see. When
they come into view a signal goes forth, a beacon in the night directing their course. ~Jim Ness~
I remember visiting the St. Augustine Lighthouse as a child and being captivated by its majesty and mystery. I
tried to imagine what it would be like to be a lighthouse keeper; to have your home right there towering heroically on
the coastline, tending the light and rescuing wind-tossed ships from the turbulent storms?. It seemed so romantic,
ever since.

development. Spanning over the 1,350 miles of Florida coastline, Florida’s lighthouses helped to make the exploration
and settlement of our beautiful state possible. There are only about 30 of these historical coastal landmarks
still standing and they offer a wonderful opportunity for individuals or families to visit for a day or weekend full of
educational value, intrigue, spectacular views and plenty of exercise climbing to the top.
Some of the lighthouses have been completely restored while others have been carefully preserved in time.
let your imagination run wild. Be sure to bring the camera!
I look forward to seeing you around town!
