Seventy Six Falls
Seventy Six Falls – N 36° 46.807’ W 085° 07.551' – Seventy Six Falls is the
largest waterfall on Lake Cumberland at 37’ tall at the lake elevation of 723’.
Seventy Six Falls is located in the Seventy Six community of Albany, KY. It’s a
popular tourist destination in the summer time.
There is a popular belief that it was named for its height before the
impoundment of Lake Cumberland, but the height is actually about 84 feet.
At normal pool of the lake the height is 38 feet.
Seventy Six was settled by John W. Semple in 1806, in what was then
Cumberland County. Semple constructed a mill that processed both grains
and fibers along Indian Creek. Little did Mr. Semple know Seventy Six Falls
would later become a popular tourist destination.
