Amazing
Ancient Egypt
By Robert Bard
Part II
All my life I looked forward to
visiting the land of the
pharaohs, the Egyptian
pyramids, and Cleopatra. It was with
excitement my wife Lupita and I
stepped off the plane to start our
adventure this past March. In the
May/June of LATINA Style, I
shared our experience as we
started our journey to discover the
mysteries of ancient Egypt, visiting
the King Tutankhamun’s traveling
exhibit and the great pyramids.
On our adventure to Egypt, we were not
only stunned by the Great Pyramid of Giza
but also by the beauty of the land.
Egypt is famous for its ancient civilization
and some of the world’s most famous
monuments, including the Giza pyramids,
the Great Sphinx and the ancient temples
dating back thousands of years.
While in Cairo, there is no way around
visiting the Egyptian Museum. There is a lot
to learn and discover while at the museum.
Home to at least 120,000 items of ancient
Egyptian antiquities, the Egyptian Museum is
one of Cairo’s top attraction.
Visiting Abu Simbel was another unique
attraction. Getting to this world heritage site
was also an adventure. The huge stone
temples are so big that it is a bit overwhelming.
The first thing you notice are the four colossal
statues carved into the temples that stand
over 20 meters high.
For us, heading out to the desert was also
an experience. There are many opportunities
to head out to the desert and ride a camel.
There is no doubt that Egypt is a country
with rich culture and history. It is among the
top destinations in the world and for sure
was an unforgettable experience to visit.
