I know that is not the case for many. I
cannot stress enough how important it
is to visit a gynecologist annually.
JOYCE
My name is
Joyce and I never
thought I would
have Cancer. One
of my younger
sisters found out
she had stage 4
Breast Cancer so I
then went for a
mammogram and found out I had
Cancer also. I was diagnosed with stage
1 Breast Cancer, had a lumpectomy and
three lymph nodes removed, and had
my hero and now I can help my
Cancer. She was diagnosed with Cancer
just a few weeks ago. We are strong and
will get through this together.
I thought there was 2 pages open
But maybe I am incorrect. Please send
me all pages together so I can see
everything together. Thank you.
LUCY VELA
My cancer
journey began in
August of 2013. I
was showering
one day and
doing my not so
r e g u l a r
self-breast exams
and found
something that felt like a small pebble,
but I checked myself a few days later
at that point my mind was telling me
few more days. A few days passed, and
I decided to call my gynecologist and
schedule my annual wellness exam and
appointment 1 month away and I
scheduled it. The following day me
knowing what I had felt called my
doctor back and told them that I had felt
something on my breast exam and they
saw my doctor it all happened so
ultrasound, radiologist telling me
something is there, recommend biopsy,
mid-morning call at work with the nurse
breast.
Telling my husband and 2 adult
children was the hardest, I could not say
the word Cancer to them, I was scared to
as a family.
My family and I met with my oncologist
Dr Ajay Sehgal and he outlined my
treatment. I did my treatments all the
while working, and I did those on Friday
work and it would not interrupt my work
weeks into my chemo my hair starts to fall
out, so I called my hairdresser and told her
I called my family, my work family, best
friend and had everyone there with me.
The 1st look into the mirror took my
breath away because of the way I looked
but with everyone’s encouragement I got
through that hurdle. I said I am going to
display this bald head proudly and that is
not wear anything to cover and the other
50% I would wear a baseball cap.
I was not going to let Cancer run my
life, I was going to run Cancer……I had
so much going on in my life that I did
month old granddaughter, my mother
and she was slowing slipping away from
us, (my mother never knew I had
Cancer) my daughter was about 8
months pregnant and was about to
deliver in the middle of my treatments,
in fact I was at treatment one Friday
daughter called to tell me that her
from the IV chemo treatment and that I
would see her at the hospital in an hour,
she delivered my 2nd granddaughter
future
daughter in law announce they are
planning their wedding for July 2014.
We celebrated my son’s wedding in the
run my life.
I am able to say that I have been
Cancer free since July 31, 2014, I now
live my life without regret, I get to
friends.I travel with my wonderful
husband and I am grateful for my
wonderful life……This was my Cancer
journey.
