T he top 10 skills that children learn from
the arts, as reported by the Washington
Post, are creativity, confidence, problem
solving, perseverance, focus, non-verbal
communication, receiving constructive
feedback, collaboration, dedication, and
accountability.
The theatre’s Associate Artistic Director
Jessica Walck believes these are the skills
that KidzAct—TNP’s premier youth theatre
program—instills in our young artists
in order to prepare them for a successful
future in the arts or any other profession.
“It is amazing how you can watch a child
transform in just one KidzAct class,”
Walck said.
“Students become more confident in
themselves and in their ability to communicate
with others. These are important
characteristics and advantages to
gain at a young age.”
Representing the success of KidzAct
are thousands of young people like
Molly Spiroff, a recent KidzAct graduate
who’d been with the program since
2003. One of Molly’s first memories and
KidzAct lessons was learning to calmly
handle stressful situations.
“I thought I was in trouble because a
piece of my costume wasn’t working
right,” said Molly, who was just 4 years
old at the time.
“Students
become more
confident in
themselves and
in their ability to
communicate
with others.”
