Dear Matinee Series Patron,
In 2017 Ringling Barnum and Bailey
Brothers announced the end of the “greatest
show on earth.” Kenneth Feld, the CEO of the
Feld Entertainment which produced the circus,
cited that low ticket sales and high operating
costs made the business unsustainable. Sears,
Macy’s, and JC Penney’s have all recently
announced store closings for the same reasons. Good things
sometimes do come to an end.
However, South Florida State College’s performing arts
series remains stable and successful because of you and our
community! In 1984, then-President Dr. Catherine Cornelius
launched the performing arts series at SFSC. The first season
consisted of five performances and, during our current 35th
anniversary season, we will present 42 performances for
school children, students, families, residents, and visitors.
Ticket sales support only 49% of the total cost of presenting
world class performances in our state of the art venue. We rely
on sponsorships, donations, playbill advertising and grants
to keep the curtain going up. Please consider sponsoring a
performance, making a donation, or buying an ad in the playbill.
Your generous support means our doors will remain open to
bring you and your family outstanding live performances.
When you support SFSC Cultural programs, you also
support the local economy. Research shows that attendees
at performances spend more than the price of the ticket.
According to the Americans for the Arts economic indicator,
the total dollars spent by the SFSC cultural program and its
audiences for the 2017-2018 season was estimated at $2.01
million! Plus an estimated $87,470 was generated in local
government revenue and another $98,184 for state government
revenue.
Please silence your phone and enjoy today’s show!
With a gr
grateful heart,
Director of Cultural Programs, SFSC
