After a brief presentation about their work entitled,
“Advances in Snook Aquaculture Technology
Development and Stock Enhancement,” Dr. Main and
Dr. Schloesser will be available for casual conversation
and Q&A. This free event is open to the public.
Florida Lighthouse Day
Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Port Boca Grande Lighthouse & Museum
880 Belcher Road,Boca Grande
One day ... two lights! The Port Boca Grande
Lighthouse at 880 Belcher Road and the Gasparilla
Island Lighthouse at 220 Gulf Blvd. will be open. This
is the only day of the year that the cupula and lantern
room is open at the top of the Port Boca Grande
Lighthouse. The recently restored Gasparilla Island
Lighthouse will also be open for climb tours to the
top.
This event is free to attend, but $5 per person to
climb the Gasparilla Island Lighthouse. Climbers be at
least 6 years of age and physically able to climb. You
must preregister for the climb.
Visiting authors and several nature and wildlife
organizations will be on hand. Crafts for the kids. Cake
and punch served. The Lighthouse Gift Shop will be
open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For information call (941)

Kid’s love this eggstarordinary event in partnership with FL State
Parks because it’s not only fun but educational too. They’ll learn
fascinating facts about barrier island shells and then the hunt is on to
find them on the beach and turn them in for awesome prizes.
Participants should meet at the picnic pavillion inside the Gasparilla
Island State Park at 11 a.m.

Free Youth Fishing Tournament
Saturday, April 27 from 9 to11 a.m.
Boca Grande Fishing Pier – north end of the Island
(Entrance just south of Kappy’s Market)
Grab your fishing pole and tackle box and come join the family fun
at the youth fishing tournaments sponsored by the Boca Beacon and
Boca Grande Marina.
The tournament is for boys and girls ages 15 and under. Bait will be
provided (no lures allowed). All children must be supervised by a
parent/guardian for this event. This is a catch and release tournament.
Registration is not necessary – just be at the pier ready to fish by 9
a.m. Refreshments are not provided so please bring what you need to
