Establishing Residency
For U.S. Citizens, legal residency may be established by filing
a Declaration of Domicile at the Clerk of the Circuit Court &
County Comptroller.

Non-U.S. Citizens should contact U.S. Citizenship and
Immigration Services for more information on obtaining
permanent residency at 1-800-375-5283.
Voter Registration: Registering to vote also establishes
residency. You can register to vote with the Supervisor of
Elections or apply for voter registration while obtaining your
driver’s license from the Tax Collector.

Property Exemptions: Once you have purchased a home, you
may file for Homestead Exemption, and other exemptions, with
the Property Appraiser.

Driver’s License and Vehicle Registration: Florida requires that
you obtain or update the address on your driver’s license within
30 days of moving. A vehicle must be registered within 10 days
of becoming employed, establishing residency, or placing a
child in public schools.
