Setting yourself up for success
LBy Jen Wead
Last month I shared the very personal information about
how I am really late to the saving game of life. I had been living
barely above pay check to pay check and didn’t prioritize
of my major goals with this column is to help women who,
just like me, are trying to make up for lost time in the most
effective way possible, I also want to speak to the women that
are at the beginning of their adult life. I have two daughters
that are twenty and twenty-one. Both work forty hour per
week jobs, and one of them goes to college full time. Putting
that $200 per month in the bank that will give them that near
million to retire probably seems like a pipe dream. While
they have been good about saving, they haven’t reached the
point that they can easily put $200 in the bank. Guess what,
friends? It isn’t easy. Working towards a goal rarely is.
What can a college aged person do to set themselves up
-
that you can. If you are seeing great advice and opportunities
for free webinars come thru your feed, it will remain present
on your mind. Some of my favorites to follow on instagram
Avoid taking out any student loan that you don’t absolutely
need. Many students take out more than they need to
have spending money, but it’s a slippery slope, just like credit
cards. Limit all of that and you will have less to pay off
later. Start investing now. You are never too young and it
is so much easier than you think. You can actually open an
account online and have it set to take out your payments automatically.

proud of what you have accomplished.
I encourage you to do this right after you create
an emergency fund for yourself. Open an account that is just
for emergencies, and try to add enough to cover 4-6 months
of expenses. You never know what could happen and you
want to be ready. Lastly, to make sure you are taking care of
insured. Do you have health insurance? Is your car properly
covered? Do you have renter’s insurance? Dotting your
“I”s and crossing your “t”s will ensure that you are covered if
something happens to you or your property.
