Georgia Military Veterans’ Hall of Fame
Class of 2018 Unveiling Ceremony
An unveiling ceremony to showcase framed citations and
photos honoring the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of
Fame (GMVHOF) Class of 2018 was held on March 14,
in the Floyd Veterans Memorial Building of the State Capitol
complex in Atlanta.
“The addition of the 17 members of the 2018 Class brought
the total to exactly 100 Georgia military heroes who have been
inducted into the GMVHOV since its inception in 2013,” said the
organization’s founder and director Col. Paul Longgrear (USARet)
of Pine Mountain.
Assisting in the photo unveiling were JROTC cadets from The
King’s Academy in Woodstock, under the direction of Col. Rick
Stepat (USA-Ret) and Naval JROTC cadets from Allatoona High
School in Acworth commanded by Senior Instructor Lt. Col.
Jeffrey Knudson (USMC-Ret).
Prior to the ceremony, the 2018 inductees in attendance,
together with next-of-kin for the deceased inductees, along with
the cadets, were invited to a photo opportunity with Governor
Brian Kemp on the steps of the North Wing of the Georgia

Capitol. After the photo, the inductees were recognized on the
special guided tour of the Capitol Building.
Among the 10 surviving veterans whose photos will hang on
the Wall of Honor were:
Brookhaven, who served Mid-East deployments in Afghanistan,
Iraq, Kuwait and Qatar.
Army.
McDonald of Fitzgerald, who, despite being severely wounded in
battle, returned for his second tour in Vietnam.
Mixon of Columbus, whose career spanned 34 years, which
culminated in several leadership positions in the Mid-East theater.
