After a long absence the Schaller family announced their return to the Grand
Prix class. The owners, Diane, Justin and Maryann Schaller bought a Ron Jones
designed hull, formerly owned by George and Sandy Kennedy.
“We are excited to join HRL as GP-39. It will be driven by Scott Liddycoat. The
team plans to make its first appearance at the races in Detroit and then be on
the circuit in 2020. We would like to thank HRL and all the people who made this
possible, “said the new owners.
Remember that the Schaller family began boat racing in 1987 with a JSS class
boat and then continued in the 5 litre class on the American side. They have won
several Championships including a UIM World Championship in Hampton, VA in
addition to setting a World Record on a one-mile course at Pontiac Lake, MI.
As they have already raced Ron Jones designed boats the choice of this
acquisition was obvious. Experience in setting up boats of this design will most
likely be an asset to the team.
In conclusion the 2020 Hydroplane Racing League season promises to be filled
with excitement on the Grand Prix side! “We are confident that the Schaller family
will bring with them their experience and professionalism,” said Didier-Bernard
Séguin, Commissioner of the HRL.
