TFO Youth Concert Expansion
TFO has been providing educational and
engaging musical experiences for young people
for over 50 years.
This season, TFO’s Youth Concerts expand to
serve more students. Growing to 18 concerts
from 15 last season, including two concerts
dedicated for private and charter schools, over
25,000 students and educators will experience
a live orchestra concert celebrating the 50th
anniversary of the moon landing. Teachers will
use lesson plans created by a team of teachers
representing Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Pasco
counties to prepare students to sing and dance
along during the interactive concert.
The 42-page Youth Concert Teacher Guide provides background information on each piece and composer, as
well as lesson plans that help students learn to identify the instrument families of the orchestra, write a poem
about moonlight inspired by Debussy’s Clair de Lune, and play along with Holst’s Jupiter using a non-pitched
percussion score. This guide will be used in about 200 elementary music classrooms this fall.
