HIS LEGACY
Pastor Samuel Adam Phillips, Sr., a pillar of the
community and celebrated Pastor to many, went
home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 1,
2019 at approximately 8:35 p.m. Pastor Phillips
passed from this life into eternal peace with the
Lord at home surrounded by his loving family.
Pastor Phillips is preceded in death by one son,
Frank Henry and his beloved sisters and brothers,
Wilie, John rodgers, Madora, Joseph, Emmon,
Josephine, Ida Mae, Issac, Jessie Mae, and John
Wesley. He was the ninth child, born January 14,
1925 to the late Will Henry Phillips and Sarah Ann
jones-Phillips.
Pastor Phillips was united in Holy Matrimony to
Linzell Jones on May 7, 1949 and to this union
seven children were born. During this union of
seventy years, he was blessed to see his family
grow and to teach God’s precepts not only to his
children but to his grandchildren and great-grand
children, who affectionately call him “Papa”.
Left to carry his legacy, cherish his memories
and celebrate a well lived life is his wife of
seventy years, Linzell Jones Phillips, three sons,
Samuel Adam Phillips, Jr. (Esther), Ben Earl
Phillips, and Alberoderick Neely, four daughters,
Dorothy Ann (Wallace) Young, Shirley Denise
(Andrew) Perpener, Ruby Dee (Percy) Wilkins,
and Aretha D. Phillips-Williams;
eight-grandchildren, Troy Adam (Mandy)
Phillips; Latina Michele Young; Michael Caswel
Young; Ryan Adam Wilkins; Steven Barnett
Glass, Jr., Stephanie Chylene Glass; Stephon
Denzell Glass and Samantha Linzell Wilkins;
hree great-grand children, troy Adam Phillips, Jr.;
Cameryn Phillips and Morgan Johnson; and a host
of nieces, nephews, extended family members and
friends. His love, deeds and works will live on
in the lives he has touched and the hearts of
whom he has loved.
