Nassau County’s
public school district is
consistently rated as one
of the best in Florida.
The district was honored as an Academically
High-Performing District by the Florida Board of
Education for thirteen (13) of the last fourteen
(14) years. It is one of only two districts in the
state to earn the designation every year since its
inception.
Accredited district-wide by AdvancEd, the district
includes 16 schools and had a student population
of 13,424 in 2019-20 school year.
At 90.9% Nassau County’s graduation rate is the
highest in the state while its drop-out rate of 0.3%
was one of the lowest.
Living in Nassau
Excellent options are available to parents who
prefer private education for their children, while a
number of nonprofit groups work to support and
expand opportunities for local schoolchildren.
The Florida State College at Jacksonville Betty
P. Cook Nassau Center offers college credit and
customized workforce education. The stateof
the-art facility is fully equipped with both
computer and technology enhanced classrooms
and labs. The Lewis “Red” Bean Technical Center
is a joint venture with the Nassau County School
District offering vocational education.
Florida’s Voluntary Pre Kindergarten Program,
or VPK, allows a parent to voluntarily enroll
eligible 4-year-olds in a free VPK program during
the school year. Five-year-olds are eligible for
admission to public kindergarten. Florida law
requires all children ages 6 to 15 to attend school
regularly during the entire school term.
Proof of child’s age, recent medical exam and
guardians’ residency within the school district as
well as a Florida Certificate of Immunization are
required to enroll in public school. Full information
