The Genesee Community Charter School (GCCS)—among the highest performing EL Education schools in the nation—is located
on the campus of the Rochester Museum & Science Center.
Genesee Community Charter School enrolls approximately 220 students in kindergarten through sixth grade. GCCS provides a rich
educational experience that values intellectual rigor, respect for diversity, and community responsibility.
The school uses local history, the arts, and our own cultural background to explore the Rochester community as our “home.”

School Services
Breakfast and lunch are provided for families who pay or
qualify for free and reduced priced meals. Meals are currently
provided by Julia K Caters and are served in classrooms as
there is no cafeteria.
Uniforms: GCCS does not have uniforms, but they do have a
dress code.
School Hours: M, T, Th, F - 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
W - 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Sports
GCCS does not have any sports programs.
Clubs and Activities
The Family Association supports weekly
Chess Club for approximately 5 months out of
Wednesdays after the typical early dismissal
from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m.

Services
Instructional Models
GCCS is an EL Education School and therefore focuses on project-based learning and integrating most content such as English and Language
Arts, Science, Social Studies, the Arts, and some Math into 12 week units of study called “Expeditions.” Genesee Community Charter School
also utilizes Deeper Learning and Instruction to challenge, engage, and empower students to be leaders of their own learning.
