BUSINESS
MATTERS
BY GLEN J. DALAKIAN, SR.
In times of crisis, we can often wonder, “Why am I here?” There
is really no answer for this – or is there? Perhaps all your life’s
experience, all that you have learned to date, the ups and downs
throughout your journey have prepared you for this moment in
time. Tough times reveal true character in people. How we react
under pressure tells a lot about our true selves. A mentor of mine
often said, “It’s not what happens to you. It’s how you handle it that
counts.” So how are you handling it?
The next move is in your hands. What steps will you take to
share some light in the darkness? Will you sit home and bury yourself
in the news reports or reality TV shows? What example will you
set for your employees, coworkers, spouse, children or, for that matter,
anyone you may come in contact with, albeit six feet away. What
you do resonates beyond what you may realize, and a positive disposition
is what our nation could use most right now. Cautious,
yes. Discerning, for sure. Prudent, of course. But most importantly,
positive and productive.
One day people may ask you, “Where were you when the coronavirus
was at its worst? What were you doing at that time?” What
will your answer be? Years from now, when people ask, you will
have only the truth to tell. Whatever that truth will be is what you
will be remembered for. But right now, at this very moment, you
can shape that future response. Will you be remembered as the
person who shuttered at home in a fetal position? Or will you have
a story of hope in the face of the storm?
-
ty? Will you be a person of hope who volunteers to help a neighbor?
Will you be strong and go to work every day to support others
and our economy? Will you remember plans for rebuilding your
future so that better days can truly be ahead for you and your family?
Those plans are for you to make now so that you can live them
in the years ahead.
The good news is, it’s all in your hands. We are not all doctors,
make a difference. Having a positive interaction with one person
today, and perhaps every day from here forward, can have a profound
impact. One act of kindness or one attempt to help someone
in need can give our society new hope and pave the road to our
healing.
“And who knows but that you have come to your royal position
for such a time as this?” –Esther 4:14 NIV
