Price Increase Proposed
for Sandy Hook
BY JULIA MORTIMER
In an effort to maintain and improve visitor services, Gateway National
Recreation is proposing to increase parking fees at Sandy
Hook for 2021. According to the National Park Service, 80 percent
of the money raised from parking fees stays within the park. Additional
revenue is used to improve the condition of visitor facilities
and offset the cost of services such as lifeguards.
The current fee for a daily pass to Sandy Hook is $15 while a season
pass is $75 per vehicle. Oversized vehicles are $30 per vehicle or
$150 for a season pass. The proposed fees for 2021 are as follows:
a daily pass is $20, and a season pass would be $100 per vehicle.
Oversized vehicles will be $50 per vehicle or $200 for a season pass.
Parking fees are charged at Sandy Hook from the Saturday before
Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Visitors with Senior or Access Passes would continue to be
charged half price. Biking, walking or using public transportation
into these beach areas will remain free.
this location. Sandy Hook has a number of projects in the works that
will improve the park if the proposed increase fees are approved, including
replacing street signs, improving ADA access to the beach,
and renovating buildings.
