The first blush of spring is here — and there’s no better time to enjoy the
North Georgia mountains. Hikers and bikers make their way amid dazzling
blossoms of redbud, dogwood and mountain laurel. The weather is shorts-andsweatshirt
perfect, with bright sunny days and just enough nip at night to make
a cabin fireplace feel magical. The air is clear and the sun is bright — it’s
the perfect time to shake off your winter
slumber and come out to play!
Spring into the season
Out of an abundance of caution, many of our
traditional spring festivals and gatherings are on
hold this year, but you’ll still find plenty to do. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway
kicks off the train-riding season in early March. The Blue Ridge Mountains Arts
Association welcomes visitors to several exhibits, as well as the virtual Blue
Ridge Writers’ Conference. At the Blue Ridge Community Theater, you’ll find

socially distanced seating for shows like ’Til Beth
Do Us Part, April 22-May 16. Catch Josh Turner
in concert at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds
in Hiawassee on May 1, or go to the Hiawassee
Pro Rodeo May 28-29. And plans are tentatively
still in place for the 45th Annual Spring Arts in
the Park festival — with plenty of arts, crafts
and food booths — in Downtown Blue Ridge on
Memorial Day weekend.
Check the Calendar of Events on pages 84-87
for more things to do, but please verify dates
and times before making your plans.
