Red Bank Regional Parent Foundation
Gets Creative During Sporting Events

With school closures and the prohibition
of group gatherings in place
for more than a year, fundraising
opportunities frankly seem unfeasible. A
large part of community fundraising has
often required physical contact with one another,
and because of COVID-19, this is not
an option. But with the creative thinking of
Red Bank Regional High School’s PTO, the
Buc Backers, socially distanced fundraising
can be both enjoyable and engaging.
Despite classes operating in a slightly
different format than normal and winter
sports being played without fans, the Buc
Backers nonetheless strive to establish
more school spirit at RBR. Launching a Fanhead
Fundraiser successfully achieved this
goal, through which people purchase a Fanhead
and send in a photo to be displayed
in the stands. While fans cannot physically
attend events, the presence of Fanheads
keeps athletes motivated and reminded of
their friends’ and families’ never-ending support.
Even better, these Fanheads are far from boring. More than 70
parents have participated, submitting photos of beloved furry friends,
celebrity characters and other funny faces. As the Fanheads are set to remain
in the RBR gym through the end of April, the basketball, wrestling,
and volleyball teams will have plenty of time to enjoy their company.
While the RBR community unfortunately must remain physically
apart, the Buc Backers’ Fanhead Fundraiser has brought the community
closer together with more school spirit than ever. All proceeds of this
event will go toward the class of 2021’s senior spring and graduation
events. While all students have been deprived of many special school
traditions and memories, the class of 2021 lost an entire senior year and
half a junior year due to COVID-19. The Buc Backers may not be able to
replace this valuable time, but they are doing everything they can to
hopefully provide the seniors a safe gathering to celebrate one another
and their beloved high school.
“With the restrictions on fan attendance at winter sports events,
the Buc Bucker Foundation, RBR's parent group organization, wanted
to support the athletes in a fun and unique way. This fundraiser brought
school spirit to the athletes and raised money for the senior class of
2021 – a group that has had limited fundraising opportunities over the
past year," noted Amy Cox, president of the Buc Backers Foundation.
"We appreciate how much the RBR community rallied around this project
and loved seeing all of the happy faces of family, friends, pets and
even celebrities in the stands!”
