Horst: Photographs -
Fashion and Surrealism
The Dalí Museum recently featured a
unique exhibit of fashion and surreal
photographs by Horst P. Horst (1906-
1999), who used dramatic lighting to
create 94 Vogue magazine covers. The
show was organized in collaboration with
London’s Victoria and Albert Museum.
According to Dalí Curator Joan Kropf,
in addition to being friends, Horst and
Dalí were inspired by each other. Café
Gala, the museum’s restaurant, proved
that food is also a form of art by creating
a special fashionable drink for the exhibit,
a Lavender and Blackberry Almond Milk
Iced Latte, that mirrored the surrealism
depicted in these two artists’ works.
Horst: Photographs - Fashion and Surrealism is
curated by the Victoria and Albert Museum,
London; and for the Dalí Museum by Joan
Kropf. Works are on loan from the V&A, The
Horst Estate, The Condé Nast Archive, Richard
J. Horst, The Sir Elton John Photography
Collection and other private collections.
